  17. What type of software do you need? There are three possibilities:

  19. a) Control the mobile from the PC using special software.

  21. The GSM standard 07.05 describes a special block protocol for SMS
  22. applications. You need a special software which lets you read and
  23. write SMS on your computer and then uses the 07.05 protocol to talk to
  24. the mobile (data) equipment.

  26. b) Control the mobile from the PC using a terminal program.
  27.  
  28. The mobile data equipment may offer a simple SMS application which can
  29. be used with a normal terminal program. You just need to connect your
  30. computer to the mobile data equipment.

  32. c) Send SMS using a modem dial-in facility from the GSM operator.
  33.  
  34. There are no standards for this. So the operator may offer a simple
  35. SMS application for use with terminal programs or they use a special
  36. protocol with which computer software can deliver SMS.

  38. a) & b) are supported for example by the Nokia Cellular Data Card for
  39. the Nokia 2110. I have seen some PC programs supporting the method a)
  40. and I have tried method b) on the Amiga myself.

  42. For method c) I only know that someone has written an Amiga program
  43. which can be used with the dial-ins of the 3 swedish GSM operators.
  44. Maybe this works also for NZ's GSM operators.
