- What type of software do you need? There are three possibilities:
-
- a) Control the mobile from the PC using special software.
-
- The GSM standard 07.05 describes a special block protocol for SMS
- applications. You need a special software which lets you read and
- write SMS on your computer and then uses the 07.05 protocol to talk to
- the mobile (data) equipment.
-
- b) Control the mobile from the PC using a terminal program.
-
- The mobile data equipment may offer a simple SMS application which can
- be used with a normal terminal program. You just need to connect your
- computer to the mobile data equipment.
-
- c) Send SMS using a modem dial-in facility from the GSM operator.
-
- There are no standards for this. So the operator may offer a simple
- SMS application for use with terminal programs or they use a special
- protocol with which computer software can deliver SMS.
-
- a) & b) are supported for example by the Nokia Cellular Data Card for
- the Nokia 2110. I have seen some PC programs supporting the method a)
- and I have tried method b) on the Amiga myself.
-
- For method c) I only know that someone has written an Amiga program
- which can be used with the dial-ins of the 3 swedish GSM operators.
- Maybe this works also for NZ's GSM operators.
